Have your say in shaping housing services in Norwich.

The panel is always looking for new members and especially welcomes applications from underrepresented groups. If you're interested, please email involvement@norwich.gov.uk(External link) to find out more.

The tenant involvement panel (TIP) meets every six weeks at City Hall to review housing policy, finance matters and scrutinise the performance of housing services. Members gain valuable insight into how housing departments operate and have the opportunity to question council officers about their roles and the challenges they face.

This involvement is essential for ensuring tenants understand how services are delivered and can influence decisions that affect their homes and communities. Housing in Norwich improves when tenants and the council work together in partnership, sharing a commitment to continually enhance living conditions.

A key area of focus for TIP is the annual rent review. Members engage in detailed discussions with senior management and the finance team, examining the factors behind proposed increases and how the additional income will be used.

TIP members also contribute to consultations on significant service changes and help shape the council's future direction.

One TIP member represents Norwich tenants on the national Association if Retained Council Housing (ARCH) tenants' group. They attend quarterly meetings to discuss issues affecting council tenants across England and report back to the panel. Learn more about ARCH at www.arch-housing.org.uk

Full training is provided to ensure all members feel confident and equipped to take part.

Peter Warren-Ward moved into his Norwich City Council flat in 2016 and was delighted with his new home. Wanting to give back to the community, he was encouraged to join the Tenant Involvement Panel (TIP).

Joining TIP proved to be a rewarding experience for Peter. He appreciated the training provided, which helped him develop essential skills such as public speaking, participating in formal meetings, and managing challenging situations. Peter believes these skills are not only valuable for TIP members but also beneficial in everyday life and work, boosting confidence and capability.

He also values the insight TIP offers into how the city is managed and how services are scrutinised. Through his involvement, Peter gained a deeper understanding of the financial pressures that shape council decisions and was impressed by the scale of annual maintenance work. Participating in site audits gave him a firsthand look at how resources are used effectively, while his work in procurement helped him understand how contracts are awarded and managed.
