Your home - stock condition survey

Consultation has concluded

A firm of Surveyors, Savills, has been commissioned by Norwich City Council to undertake a Stock Condition Survey of its housing stock

The purpose of the survey is to enable Norwich City Council to check if your home is free from hazards, to ensure your safety and well-being and to gather information regarding the condition, to assist in planning future maintenance programmes.

The surveys will be carried out between 12th May 2025 and 31st May 2026. A surveyor may call at your property during this period and, if this is the case, we would be grateful if you could give him/her access. All surveyors will be wearing a Savills identification badge and will carry a letter of authority on Norwich City Council’s headed paper.

If you are not at home should a surveyor call, he/she will leave a calling card with contact details for you to arrange a convenient appointment.

The three questions in the survey you find here will be used to assist with planning the visits in general.

Please be aware that we cannot guarantee our surveyors will be able to visit your home on the day and time you ask for due to the volume of housing stock we need to visit.

If you would like to book your stock condition survey rather than waiting for one of the surveyors to call round, please call us on 0344 980 3333, 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday

If you would like to complete a paper version of the survey below, you can request this by contacting us at involvement@norwich.gov.uk

Stock Condition Survey — What we did and what you told us

Knowing the condition of our tenants' homes helps us plan repairs, maintain safety standards, and invest in improvements in the right places. But getting access to carry out surveys has always been a challenge.

To help, we used the Housing Hub to ask tenants a simple question: when is it most convenient for a surveyor to visit?

We asked three short questions: preferred day, preferred time, and best way to contact you if you're unavailable. The responses helped our surveyors plan visits around tenants' schedules, making access much more likely.

The approach worked. A number of tenants who responded also got in touch to book their survey directly, and those appointments took place at times that suited them.

    What you told us

Preferred day: Monday was the most popular choice (9 responses), followed by Tuesday and Saturday (6 each).

Preferred time: Early morning was the clear favourite (11 responses), with lunchtime and afternoon both scoring 7.

If unavailable: Most tenants preferred to be contacted by email (15), followed by telephone (8) and text message (7).

We'll continue to use what we've learned here to improve how we communicate about future surveying work.
