The consultation has now concluded.
The St Georges Street play area is getting an upgrade!
The play area is an inner-city play park opposite Norwich Playhouse. The park is well-loved by children of all ages but used most by pre-schoolers. The upgrade will involve replacing the current equipment, flooring and fencing.
Thank you to the 442 people who responded to the first survey.
The results were tight with 56% preferring the urban over the traditional re-design concept. The feedback suggested combining the two concepts to cater for the range of ages.
Other feedback included:
Prioritising age inclusion by catering to ages 2-12 years
Inclusive and accessible design allowing all abilities access to the play area
Including variation to drive imaginative play scenarios
Providing a multitude of activities that stimulate physical and cognitive skills
The parks and open spaces team invited three suppliers to design a play area based on this feedback. We now invite you to select your favourite design for St Georges.

The new playground at St Georges is now open!
Thank you for your patience during the construction and we can't wait to hear and see what you think of the new playground.
Norwich City Councillor Adam Giles, cabinet member for communities and social inclusion, said: “We’re delighted the St Georges play area is now fully open again for everyone in the local community to explore and enjoy. Our thanks go to the children, parents, carers and other family members who took part in the public consultation and responded in large numbers with detailed feedback to help choose such a colourful, accessible and engaging design. Encouragement to use their imaginations is such a vital component in young children’s development and we hope families will make full use of the new equipment.”
