Skatepark upgrades update – thank you for your feedback
Construction work underway at Heartsease Recreation Ground.
A huge thank you to everyone who shared feedback online or joined us in person during last year’s consultation. Your ideas directly shaped the final designs, and the upgrades are now underway.
Your input continues to shape skate spaces that reflect the needs, skills and creativity of Norwich’s riding community. Final design visuals and images of the construction work are available to preview on this page.
Heartsease: now open
The upgraded skate area at Heartsease Recreation Ground is fully open. The design was shaped by rider feedback and now features:
- A new concrete mini ramp with pool-style coping
- A sunken pool element inspired by classic 1970s skate design
- A flowing layout suitable for all abilities
- A roller-skate loop, seating and covered shelter
Eaton Park: your feedback in action
Construction at Eaton Park is now in progress. The final design was updated directly in response to community suggestions, including:
- Curved ledge changed to a straight ledge: A long, straight ledge has now been introduced as requested.
- New out‑ledge at the level change: An out‑ledge has been added and is accessible from both sides.
- Straightened floor layout: The extension now supports straight back‑and‑forth lines as well as diagonal connections into the existing park.
- Manual pad changed to a T‑block: A manual pad with an attached ledge has replaced the original design.
- Ledge heights adjusted for BMX users: All ledges are now above 330mm, exceeding the 250mm minimum requested.
- More flat space between obstacles: Obstacles have been spaced further apart to give riders better run‑up and run‑off areas, creating the clean plaza feel users asked for.
- China bank replaced with quarter pipes: Two progressive‑height quarter pipes have been added to support both beginners and more advanced riders, while the former china bank now forms a distinctive central feature.
Eaton Park’s construction is expected to complete this spring, with further updates to follow.
