Success story
At 80 years old, Anne has called Ryrie Court Sheltered Housing her home for nearly a decade.
Living in her cherished two-bedroom flat she enjoys a beautiful view of the pond and the sense of community around her. But when her stairlift an essential aid for her mobility was deemed beyond repair, she faced the heartbreaking prospect of having to leave the home she loves.
That’s when the council’s sheltered housing team stepped in. Understanding the importance of keeping residents independent in their own homes,
they quickly arranged through the home improvement team for a brand-new stairlift to be installed completely free of charge through the Disabled Adaptations (DA) grant. No assessments were needed, and Anne didn’t have to pay a penny.
When Anne found out, she was overwhelmed with gratitude, insisting she contribute financially or donate to charity on the council’s behalf. It took several calls and emails to reassure her that the cost was fully covered. Finally, she accepted the stairlift with a grateful heart sending a heartfelt thank-you card to express her appreciation.
This is just one example of the life-changing impact our housing team has on residents every day. By working together, we’re not just providing homes, we’re ensuring people like Anne can continue to live safely, comfortably, and independently in the place they love.
