Norwich City Council is revising its Statement of Community Involvement to ensure that it reflects the latest national planning policy developments and that the public remain actively involved in shaping the city’s planning decisions.
Planning aims to ensure the right development happens in the right place, benefitting communities, the environment and the economy. It plays a critical role in identifying what development is needed and where, what areas need to be protected or enhanced and in assessing whether proposed development is suitable. The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) outlines how the council will engage and consult with Norwich communities and other stakeholders on planning decisions. This includes the development of local plans and assessing planning applications. This engagement is crucial to ensure that the development aligns with the needs and aspirations of the community, minimises negative impacts and maximises positive benefits.
The revised SCI reflects changes in national and local planning policy including:
The adoption of the Greater Norwich Local Plan (GNLP) in March 2024
Production of new Supplementary Planning Documents to support the Local Plan
Changes to national planning rules which mean more types of development can be carried out without planning permission
Introduction of new environmental initiatives to help improve biodiversity and water quality
The consultation will run from Friday 18th October 2024 to Sunday 1st December 2024. You can find the draft SCI and respond to the consultation below.
