Transcript - Our budget challenge with transcript.
The council is at the heart of the city and our key priority is to serve the people of Norwich.
Like other local councils, we’re not immune from the impacts of inflation. Everything is costing more.
We will need to make some tough decisions on the services we provide and how we provide them to bridge our budget gap of £6.2m next year.
Despite the tough times we will continue to invest millions of pounds in the things that really matter to you.
This year we spent £10.4m on environmental services This paid for us to…
- maintain 23 parks, 81 open spaces and 56 natural areas
- make 7 million waste and recycling collections a year from 144,000 households
- keep 1,583 streets clean
- empty 400 public litter bins throughout the city
With 14,500 council homes, we are one of the largest local authority landlords in the country – accounting for about 22 per cent of housing in the city.
We spent £27.6m on maintaining and improving our council homes and £11.3m on meeting housing need.
We paid £225,000 worth of energy bill rebates to 13,927 residents
We awarded grants totalling £248,000 to cultural organisations
We’re investing £25m of Town Deal money across 8 core projects to support the delivery of jobs, homes and skills.
Over the last five years we’ve supported some of our most vulnerable by making energy efficiency improvements to over 1,800 properties
And we do so much more!
